1972 and I'm dropping a 401 Buick behind the cab of my '37 International. Was a wheelstander that could lay four black patches of rubber at once! I think I had a total of $350 in the entire thing.
1978 and this is my '56 Chevy Sedan Delivery...took a couple years to get it to this point. Brought our baby daughter home from the hospital in it (she's now 27).
Got rid of the delivery but kept the 4-bolt main 350 and dropped it into this '50 GMC. Flip front was cool but truck was a real rust rod. 1980.
Got into customizing Beetles and never quite got out of it. Started off by adding split rear window, shaving everything, added headlights off my old '37 International, tailights form a '39 Chevy. 1984
That's a V6 Buick in the back of my '64 Ghia 'vert. It was bad, bad, bad but I was too big to fit into it comfortably! Sold it to a friend who still has it. 1985
Found a '53 Stude and redid everything and dropped in a 400 Chevy small block. Sold it for a tidy profit. Turns out the car was apparently a prototype...haven't ever seen one just like it and Stude guys say it doesn't exist! 1988.
Got lucky and found a VW Kombi Bus from Arizona...solid and straight. Couple hundred bucks. Never painted it. Kids drove the heck out of it back and forth to school. 1994.
In a moment of weakness at a swap meet (Englishtown, NJ) I picked up this '56 Chevy Bel Air Sport Coupe. Better shape than it looks. Maybe someday use it to build a copy of the candy apple red coupe I drove when I started college. 1994. Still in storage.
Here's some more sickness...and back to VW's. Bought a solid little beetle and cut the crap out of it. It's a blast to drive! 2005
Sold the little VW flatbed to help finance home remodeling in 2006. Sold the house, moved to Massachusetts, bought my daughter's '65 Beetle and quickly commenced to cutting it up, summer 2007. That's my daughter (the one without the beard) and me at a car show in '07 with "Ratgutz". The car's body was shortened 20", the chassis shortened 14", body sectioned 6", among other things. Fun little go-cart.
Sold "Ratgutz" when Kay got sick and I needed to raise some fast $$. After the hospital bills were paid I cut up a '75 Bug and embarked on this little monster, "Voltsrat". It has Honda Goldwing rear swing arm and VW body and front suspension. Body was narrowed 16", chaneled 2", moved back 6". Suspension was dropped 6 1/2" Electric power. Now saving up for batteries.
