Over ONE
MILLION meals served and over THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND
beds made! And it's not McDonald's or the
Holiday Inn.
Market Ministries, Inc. has been
serving the hungry and the homeless population of the
greater New Bedford area for (over) 25 years and the astounding
numbers above tell the tale. Since 1983, Sister Rosellen
Gallogly ("Sister Rose") has directed these efforts,
overseeing the daily soup kitchen now at the Pilgrim
United Church as well as the emergency men's overnight
shelter on Eighth Street in the center of the city. In
recent years, the agency's work has expanded (to include) running a transition house for men who are
leaving the shelter but not quite self-sustaining.
What's even more astounding is that Sister Rose, who
recently celebrated 60 years as a Sister of Mercy, has
accomplished this without ever asking for money!
Will you please join with us in
celebrating the wonderful work which has been done and
in helping us to continue this important work into the
future? We hope you will accept our
invitation to become a partner with Market Ministries in
this much needed service to the local hungry and
homeless population, and we thank you in advance for
considering this opportunity.
Gratefully yours,
Senator Mark Montigny
